The mother did not want the child but secretly gave her up for adoption so that her father could not raise her. Now the father has been trying to obtain custody of the child for two years. "The day before their daughter was born, he texted to ask if she was going to the hospital the next day. She said she thought so. He responded by asking if she was going to come outside and when she was going. No response. Then, Marteliz said, “I was told that my daughter passed away." In a court filing, Marteliz said the mother of his child told him the child had died due to sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS). “I couldn’t accept it. I needed to see," Marteliz said. "I’m going to hospitals, and they’re calling security on me because I’m in here looking for my daughter. And I can’t find her.” Then, nearly three weeks after their daughter was born, the mother sent two texts to Marteliz: "I have her" and “I got the baby.” That news marked the start of a new nightmare for Marteliz, with him texting her, “I wanna see my baby.” “I found out from a CPS lady that there was a baby that was born, a newborn that was alive. And I reached out to someone that worked for her. The adoption agency that she told me about," Marteliz said. “I felt like okay, well I’m the father, I’m her dad, I can take a test, I can prove I’m her dad, my daughter’s alive." Marteliz is fighting for custody while the child is with prospective adoptive parents through the agency Heart of Adoptions. Alienation causes health, psychological, social and financial damage to fathers and should be treated like other crimes that have already been recognized in similar situations as crimes against humanity, because, according to the definition and relevant legal articles, these crimes are directed at the social group that is fathers and their children. "Mental and Physical Health Professor Wittert specialises in male health and health equity for men. Together, we outline how alienation in families adversely affects fathers and their children’s mental and physical well-being. Alienated fathers suffer suicidality and poor mental and physical health, especially those without support for their stigmatisation and exclusion from society. Men and fathers do better working together on pathways out of distress. Alienation Results in Social and Economic Burdens Parental alienation and alienation in families cause significant and relatively unrecognised social and economic burdens for societies worldwide. The adverse outcomes for alienated children are well known. Family Law and other social services discard alienated fathers. Too often, these services consider the alienating parent coercing their child to reject that loving parent and their extended family is in the child’s best interests." The first state in the USA understood how important it is to support fatherhood. "The Fatherhood Grant Program represents a significant commitment to the overall health and welfare of Tennessee society. Through this initiative, TDHS aims to foster partnerships with public, private, and non-profit entities to advance fatherhood initiatives and provide essential support to fathers. The grant program will specifically allocate funds to organizations focusing on delivering fatherhood-related programs such as mentorship, educational and co-parenting support, skill-building workshops, employment services, and financial literacy." A large proportion of men involved in family disputes fall into financial problems, including homelessness. Unfortunately, people often draw misleading conclusions that someone deserved such a fate without knowing the actual reasons. "The family court system is fraught with challenges that can devastate families. Issues such as false allegations, parental alienation, and coercive control are rampant, leaving many parents feeling helpless and marginalized. The advocate in question has made it their mission to bring these issues to light, campaigning for a more just and compassionate system that prioritizes the well-being of children and the rights of parents. Their work involves organizing rallies, speaking at events, and using their platform to amplify the voices of those who are often unheard. Despite the personal hardships they face, their commitment to this cause has never wavered. This dedication stems from a deep-seated belief that every parent deserves to be treated fairly and with dignity, and that no child should be used as a pawn in legal battles. Leading the worldwide rally for family law reform is no small feat, especially for someone battling homelessness. This advocate’s leadership has inspired many, showing that one’s circumstances do not define their ability to effect change. Their story is a testament to the power of resilience and the importance of fighting for justice, even in the face of personal adversity." In general, fatherhood is being destroyed for many different reasons by punishing protective fathers. According to the author, for five reasons such as: 1. Flexibility is often feminized 2. There is an expectation for men to focus on their career 3. Men don't know what they are entitled to 4. Occupational barriers 5. A lack of male role models "In order for things to change, men's caregiving roles must become more visible at work and organizations must better support dads in adopting flexibility for caring purposes. Some effective ways to improve the situation include having male leaders model flexibility, organizations promoting the idea that flexibility is for dads too and telling men about their work-family entitlements when they become, or are about to become, a father."
