Domestic violence about which we constantly hear that women are the most affected, but as we wrote earlier, the statistics and research say something completely different. "Research showing that women are often aggressors in domestic violence has been causing controversy for almost 40 years, ever since the 1975 National Family Violence Survey by sociologists Murray Straus and Richard Gelles of the Family Research Laboratory at the University of New Hampshire found that women were just as likely as men to report hitting a spouse and men were just as likely as women to report getting hit. The researchers initially assumed that, at least in cases of mutual violence, the women were defending themselves or retaliating. But when subsequent surveys asked who struck first, it turned out that women were as likely as men to initiate violence—a finding confirmed by more than 200 studies of intimate violence. In a 2010 review essay in the journal Partner Abuse, Straus concludes that women’s motives for domestic violence are often similar to men’s, ranging from anger to coercive control. Critics have argued that the survey format used in most family violence studies, the Conflict Tactics Scale, is flawed and likely to miss some of the worst assaults on women—especially post-separation attacks. Yet two major studies using a different methodology—the 2000 National Violence Against Women Survey by the National Institute of Justice and the Centers for Disease Control National Intimate Partner and Sexual Violence Survey published last February—have also found that some 40% of those reporting serious partner violence in the past year are men. (Both studies show a much larger gender gap in lifetime reports of partner violence; one possible explanation for this discrepancy is that men may be more likely to let such experiences fade from memory over time since they have less cultural support for seeing themselves as victims, particularly of female violence.) Violence by women causes less harm due to obvious differences in size and strength, but it is by no means harmless. Women may use weapons, from knives to household objects—including highly dangerous ones such as boiling water—to neutralize their disadvantage, and men may be held back by cultural prohibitions on using force toward a woman even in self-defense. In his 2010 review, Straus concludes that in various studies, men account for 12% to 40% of those injured in heterosexual couple violence. Men also make up about 30% of intimate homicide victims—not counting cases in which women kill in self-defense. And women are at least as likely as men to kill their children—more so if one counts killings of newborns—and account for more than half of child maltreatment perpetrators." Facts that feminists and women's organizations hide from the public. "The women’s movement brought initial attention to the problem of partner violence directed at women and to the need for funding to address that problem.6 Much of the initial research on IPV was conducted with severely abused women and supported the assumption that IPV is primarily perpetrated by men against women. Data is mounting, however, that suggests that IPV is often perpetrated by both men and women against their partner.7,8,9 It is also becoming recognized that perpetration of IPV by both partners within a relationship is fairly common. This phenomenon has been described with terms such as mutual violence, symmetrical violence, or reciprocal violence. Here we use the terms reciprocal and nonreciprocal to indicate IPV that is perpetrated by both partners (reciprocal) or 1 partner only (nonreciprocal) in a given relationship. Reciprocity of IPV does not necessarily mean that the frequency or the severity of the violence is equal or similar between partners. Several studies have found that much of partner violence is reciprocal. For example, in their national studies of family violence, Straus et al. found that in about half of the cases, violence was reciprocal.10 Similar results were found in the National Survey of Families and Households.8 Studies reviewed by Gray and Foshee11 found that among violent adolescent relationships, the percentage of relationships in which there was reciprocal partner violence ranged from 45% to 72%. A recent meta-analysis found that a woman’s perpetration of violence was the strongest predictor of her being a victim of partner violence.12 Reciprocal partner violence does not appear to be only comprised of self-defensive acts of violence. Several studies have found that men and women initiate violence against an intimate partner at approximately the same rate. For example, Gray and Foshee11 specifically asked adolescents about their initiation of violence and found that among the violent relationships studied, 66% were characterized by both partners initiating violence at least once. In the National Family Violence Survey, both men and women reported that violence was initiated by each partner at least 40% of the time.10 Additionally, studies of community samples found that a relatively low percentage of women endorsed self-defense as a primary motive for violence.13,14 These data suggest that self-defense cannot fully explain the reciprocal violence phenomenon. Women Can Be as Violent as Men. "You may have heard of a Perth-based family counsellor who was forced to resign from Relationships Australia WA (RAWA) after posting on his private Facebook page an article social commentator Bettina Arndt wrote a few years ago for the Weekend Australian.[1] The article summarised the latest official statistics and research on domestic violence, providing evidence that most domestic violence is two-way, involving women as well as men.[2] This was regarded as a breach of policy, because, on its own website, RAWA says its domestic violence policy “is historically framed by a feminist analysis of gendered power relations” which, contrary to the international evidence, denies women’s role in domestic violence.[3] By endorsing a feminist policy that is so morally bankrupt (and punishing a well-respected counsellor for refusing to do so)[4], this government-funded institution displays a disturbing lack of compassion for the wellbeing of all the male victims of domestic violence. RAWA’s policy is based on a discredited approach that perpetuates the false assumption that domestic violence is always perpetrated by men against women. And yet, data keeps mounting which indicate that domestic violence may be perpetrated by both men and women against their partners. A decade ago an official letter by the Harvard Medical School declared that “the problem is often more complicated, and may involve both women and men as perpetrators”. Based on the findings of an analysis of more than 11,000 American men and women aged eighteen to twenty-eight, the letter concluded: When the violence is one-sided … women were the perpetrators about 70% of the time. Men were more likely to be injured in reciprocally violent relationships (25%) than were women when the violence was one-sided (20%). That means both men and women agreed that men were not more responsible than women for intimate partner violence. The findings cannot be explained by men’s being ashamed to admit hitting women, because women agreed with men on this point.[5] The Harvard Medical School’s letter was based on a seminal work published in the American Journal of Public Health in 2007. Written by four experts in the field (Daniel J. Whitaker, Tadesses Laileyesus, Monica Swahn and Linda S. Saltman), it seeks to examine the prevalence of reciprocal (that is, two-way) and non-reciprocal domestic violence, and to determine whether reciprocity is related to violence and injury.[6] After analysing the data, which contained information about domestic violence reported by 11,370 respondents on 18,761 heterosexual relationships, the following conclusions were reached: ● A woman’s perpetration of domestic violence is the strongest predictor of her being a victim of partner violence;[7] ● Among relationships with non-reciprocal violence, women were reported to be the perpetrator in a majority of cases; [8] ● Women reported greater perpetration of violence than men did (34.8 per cent against 11.4 per cent, respectively).[9] One explanation for these significant findings is that men are simply less willing than women to report hitting their partner. “This explanation cannot account for the data, however, as both men and women reported a larger proportion on nonreciprocal violence perpetrated by women than by men.”[10] In fact, the authors explain that women’s greater perpetration of violence was reported by both women (female perpetrators = 24.8 per cent, male perpetrators = 19.2 per cent) and by men (female perpetrators = 16.4 per cent, male perpetrators = 11.2 per cent).[11] Based on the information available, the authors concluded:" More in link quadrant.org.au/magazine/2018/09/women-can-violent-men/?fbclid=IwAR10IV5vg7KUV166aEH442l3b4rsMKuCdR67Lv3AxJTgNpmEDm2pvmNoFA0#men #women #equal #father #discriminationmen #discrimination #segregation #falseaccusations #domesticviolence #childsupport #equalparenting #parentalalienation #divorce #fraud #falseaccusationsrape #fatherless #childsharecustody #fahtermatter #law #brokenlaw #familylaw #court #depression, #depressionafterdivorce #Divorce #effectsofdivorce #health #masculinity #mentalhealth #suicidal #suicide #equalpay #equalwork #menrights #humanrights

A collection of statistics on domestic violence. "Facts and Statistics on Prevalence of Partner Abuse Victimization Overall, 22% of individuals assaulted by a partner at least once in their lifetime (23% for females and 19.3% for males) Higher overall rates among dating students Higher victimization for male than female high school students Lifetime rates higher among women than men Past year rates somewhat higher among men Higher rates of intimate partner violence (IPV) among younger, dating populations “highlights the need for school-based IPV prevention and intervention efforts” Perpetration Overall, 25.3% of individuals have perpetrated IPV Rates of female-perpetrated violence higher than male-perpetrated (28.3% vs. 21.6%) Wide range in perpetration rates: 1.0% to 61.6% for males; 2.4% to 68.9% for women, Range of findings due to variety of samples and operational definitions of PV Emotional Abuse and Control 80% of individuals have perpetrated emotional abuse Emotional abuse categorized as either expressive (in response to a provocation) or coercive (intended to monitor, control and/or threaten) Across studies, 40% of women and 32% of men reported expressive abuse; 41% of women and 43% of men reported coercive abuse According to national samples, 0.2% of men and 4.5% of women have been forced to have sexual intercourse by a partner 4.1% to 8% of women and 0.5% to 2% of men report at least one incident of stalking during their lifetime Intimate stalkers comprise somewhere between one-third and one half of all stalkers. Within studies of stalking and obsessive behaviors, gender differences are much less when all types of obsessive pursuit behaviors are considered, but more skewed toward female victims when the focus is on physical stalking" More in link domesticviolenceresearch.org/domestic-violence-facts-and-statistics-at-a-glance/?fbclid=IwAR27s995hNnMFEfkgTOFhRGfZnyZag9pC9-riBvESPkfUmtxzwFGU03LWCQ#men #women #equal #father #discriminationmen #discrimination #segregation #falseaccusations #domesticviolence #childsupport #equalparenting #parentalalienation #divorce #fraud #falseaccusationsrape #fatherless #childsharecustody #fahtermatter #law #brokenlaw #familylaw #court #depression, #depressionafterdivorce #Divorce #effectsofdivorce #health #masculinity #mentalhealth #suicidal #suicide #equalpay #equalwork #menrights #humanrights

It really is rare for mainstream media to come up with an honest factual article. "Myth: Men can sometimes be victims, but most abuse is suffered by women in heterosexual relationships Reality: The heterosexual pattern for perpetration is 50% bidirectional, 35% female unidirectional, and 15% male unidirectional. The most common pattern of violence is bidirectional perpetration, meaning both men and women perpetrate equally in both frequency and severity of the violence. Unidirectional then means one partner perpetrates more often and with more severe violence. The numbers show women abuse their male partners more (this applies to western countries, as non-Western countries have very different patterns). Intimate partner violence is the only area of violence that sees women being more violent than men, but this doesn't mean women aren’t victims: they are. Same-sex couples experience similar rates of violence, but lesbians experience more partner violence than women in heterosexual relationships. Along with the bidirectional rates, this shows that the gender paradigm—men perpetrate violence to retain patriarchy and women only hit in self-defence—is simply not evidence-based." According to a large body of scientific research by thousands of scholars for five decades, there is close symmetry in domestic violence perpetration by women and by men. Women perpetrate at least as much as men do (and some studies, around 50, show far higher prevalence of female perpetrated domestic violence by a ratio of 2:1) More in link criticathink.wordpress.com/2020/06/21/gender-symmetry-of-domestic-violence/?fbclid=IwAR3rfBXdXzRdckz3kXUUh-dNHu_-XtpTxbmFJMQwlB0aagFS4i8DD-vskIg#men #women #equal #father #discriminationmen #discrimination #segregation #falseaccusations #domesticviolence #childsupport #equalparenting #parentalalienation #divorce #fraud #falseaccusationsrape #fatherless #childsharecustody #fahtermatter #law #brokenlaw #familylaw #court #depression, #depressionafterdivorce #Divorce #effectsofdivorce #health #masculinity #mentalhealth #suicidal #suicide #equalpay #equalwork #menrights #humanrights

"A report published by the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) and ManKind, a charity which supports male victims of domestic abuse, has exposed the severe and longstanding negative effects of coercive control on men. Coercive control is defined as an act or a pattern of acts of assault, threats, humiliation and intimidation or other abuse that is used to harm, punish, or frighten their victim. The analysis of responses to a survey of 538 men revealed that male victims had significant physical and mental reactions to coercion. Almost eight out of ten male victims had scores indicating that PTSD was a concern. Additionally, 43% of male victims had distress scores high enough to suppress the immune system" More in link www.uclan.ac.uk/news/new-research-highlights-impact-of-coercive-control-on-uk-men?fbclid=IwAR0dUyk7BnmSsnmHq_R9MKyVXEV0fEoS49Y4Twwt5WSJxN7vy1BpVuThjEE#men #women #equal #father #discriminationmen #discrimination #segregation #falseaccusations #domesticviolence #childsupport #equalparenting #parentalalienation #divorce #fraud #falseaccusationsrape #fatherless #childsharecustody #fahtermatter #law #brokenlaw #familylaw #court #depression, #depressionafterdivorce #Divorce #effectsofdivorce #health #masculinity #mentalhealth #suicidal #suicide #equalpay #equalwork #menrights #humanrights

New research of men’s experiences of coercive control. "Research which has asked males has found unique types of coercive control by women directed at their male partner included degrading men about their salary, their life choices, their job, for not being a good provider, being a bad father, emasculate him, make him feel inadequate as a lover, and challenge his masculinity (McHugh et al, 2013). Similarly, Follingstad’s (2007) research found that men described coercive behaviours towards them by their female partner that included controlling decision making in the family and denigrating men’s sexual performance. Indeed, research has found that women use gender role harassment (Berdahl 2007), which refers to comments by women towards men that are directed towards criticising men’s behaviours, personalities, performances and role choices as being not manly enough. Berdahl and her colleagues found that the focus of much of this coercive behaviour is to undermine men’s masculine role by denigrating their partner’s ability to fulfil the expected male role, and by labelling them as ‘sissies, girls, or gays’. COERCIVE VIA ‘THE SYSTEM’ Legal and administrative (LA) intimate abuse (Hines, Douglas, & Berger,2015) is a form of coercive control that appears to be particularly salient to male victims. LA abuse is used when a partner uses the police, social services and the courts to coercive a man into complying with their demands. LA abuse is possible because men as victims are largely invisible to professionals working with domestic abuse. LA abuse is associated with more symptoms of PTSD and depression in male victims, and is also associated problematic behaviour of their children (Hines, et al., 2015)." The question is, why don't public institutions take male victims seriously the same way they treat female victims? Data from USA: "Government reports confirm that domestic violence and psychological abuse is now more widespread among women than men: — Each year there are 4.2 million male victims of physical domestic violence, compared to 3.5 million female victims, according to the Centers for Disease Control (4). — Each year, 17.3 million men and 12.7 million women are victims of coercive control behaviors. "Deborah Powney has been studying the experiences of men who are victims of women exerting coercive control over them. This podcast is made by Deborah, which gives personal stories from men who have been victims of abuse by women. Listen to Deborah's description of her research which has confirmed that domestic abuse is perpetrated more or less as frequently (although typically with less physical force) by women on men as by men on women. This is well known to those helping victims on the front line but there is widespread resistance to accepting this reality among those at senior levels in domestic abuse charities and activist groups. These influential organisations insist that there is only one cause for domestic abuse, which is men's patriarchal assumption of their right to control women. Deborah explains the significance and tragic consequences of this mistaken ideology."

"Dr Jessica McCarrick, a Senior Lecturer in Counselling Psychology, thinks more should be done to support male victims. Her research focusses on in-depth interviews with male victims of domestic violence and explores why men are more than twice as likely as women not to report the abuse they suffer. It found that when men do report the abuse, their negative experiences are perpetuated within the criminal justice system by being treated like the guilty party or feeling dismissed by the police. 'Men find it incredibly difficult to talk about their experiences of domestic violence because of the shame and emasculation they feel is associated with it. To find the courage to speak out, only to be accused of violence themselves, is incredibly disheartening and ultimately prevents countless men from reporting intimate partner violence." Shocking conclusions about domestic violence in the EU. Please read the whole thing carefully. Imagine the reader that a law is passed to reduce or prevent deaths from Cardiovascular Disease in EU. Logically all citizens would be in favor. And all political parties would join this idea in the name of the "general interest" to improve the health of the population. Imagine that a multitude of public services are created in each local, regional community, in each national State in EU. Imagine that hundreds of associations are also subsidized to work on it. Imagine that it is approved to spend 15% on institutional advertising of each ministry in the media, TV and press to make prevention announcements. Imagine that companies are offered to reduce their taxes if they campaign to prevent Cardiovascular Disease. Imagine that professional associations are offered grants to assist in the Cardiovascular Disease prevention campaign. Imagine that a 24-hour helpline is created, and another 17 24-hour telephones in each regional or local communities. Imagine that hundreds of courses, conferences, national and international conferences are organized and paid to talk about it. Imagine that in each school, in each institute and in each university “special” Cardiovascular Disease prevention units are created and, once again, conferences and round tables are organized and financed. Imagine that money is given to unions to create Cardiovascular Disease prevention services. Imagine that in each company a “special delegate” for Cardiovascular Disease prevention is created. Imagine that more than 200 social courts and special prosecutor's offices are created to investigate and punish those who may be responsible for causing Cardiovascular Disease. Imagine that all this comes from the General State Budget every national state EU. Imagine that after 10 years of passing that law and spending more than 240,000,000,000 euros (EU estimate) on it, it is discovered that the number of Cardiovascular Disease cases has increased by almost 30% and that the number of Cardiovascular Disease cases has doubled, even tripled the number of deaths for this reason. Everyone would come to the conclusion that this Cardiovascular Disease prevention law is a failure. Well imagine, furthermore, that all this shebang leaves out the attention to men because they are men and boys because they are boys. Imagine that five more years have passed, and things remain the same. Deaths continue to increase and cases of Cardiovascular Disease treatment do not stop increasing between 5% and 10% annually. Well, stop imagining and know that all this is what has really happened with the Law of against Domestic Violence in the EU. Well, stop imagining and know that this is what is going to happen with the law for the protection of victims domestic violence. Children, underage youth (males) and men are out of any equation, as long as the aggressor is a woman. A lot of people are going to make money from all of this. Legal associations, psychologists, public institutions for combating domestic violence, and above all tens of thousands of various types of organizations of the majority of women, such as Women Aids, etc. We already know that these types of laws and their millionaire budget items have not prevented the murder of any woman. And now the facts and statistics confirm that: Eurostat statistics show that from 2010 to 2019 the number of murders decreased by about 4%, therefore the law on the prevention of domestic violence did not stop the increase in the number of domestic violence murders. It is that this law is not only a failure, but it is a law that is causing more family violence. These numbers more or less remain at the same level, sometimes there are several percent more victims, and sometimes few percent less. The causes of homicide victims of domestic violence in EU countries were around 3906 in 2010 and 3765 in 2019. An explanation of what is the control of the parent having authority over the other parent called Asymmetry. "The study, co-authored by Harman's graduate student, Caitlyn Grubb, and University of Illinois researcher Christopher Maniotes, was based on detailed interviews with 50 fathers and 29 mothers who had been alienated from their children. Most of these families exhibited asymmetries in power between the parents, underscoring the argument that parental alienation and coercively controlling abuse are similar -- two sides of the same coin, Harman said, and they should be treated similarly in family court proceedings. "Our findings show that parental alienating behaviors more closely resemble coercively controlling violence, intimate terrorism and battery than other more common types of abuse, such as situational couple violence," Harman said. "Parental alienating behaviors are abusive and should be included under legislation and policies that seek to protect children." Imbalances of power are created by alienating parents who employ controlling strategies like harassment, threats and intimidation. The resulting climate disempowers the other parent by making them feel their behavioral options are limited, fearing they will lose their children or become hurt themselves. About 80% of the situations studied involved asymmetries of power, some of which could be described as games of "chicken" -- providing only two, narrow choices to the parent with less power, perpetrated by the alienating parent in order to gain or maintain control of the parenting dynamic. The researchers also found that such asymmetries were most prevalent when the perpetrating parent had primary or sole custody of the children. Harman and her colleagues' work also shows that parental alienation is mostly gender-neutral; both fathers and mothers do it at about the same rates, although they use different tactics. This gender neutrality matches national statistics on other abusive behaviors like stalking, physical and sexual abuse. "We don't see gender differences in many other types of abusers," Harman said." "These incidents reveal how female-perpetrated family violence has become a serious problem in USA. Government reports confirm that domestic violence and psychological abuse is now more widespread among women than men: — Each year there are 4.2 million male victims of physical domestic violence, compared to 3.5 million female victims, according to the Centers for Disease Control (4). — Each year, 17.3 million men and 12.7 million women are victims of coercive control behaviors. Stated as percentages, annually 15.2% of men and 10.7% of women experience coercive control by their partners (5)."
